dreams of the taj
delhi, jaipur, agra
8 days

You've always dreamt of it, now you can do it. Escape for just one week to witness the magic of the world's greatest monument of love, the Taj Mahal. In fact, the 'Dreams of the Taj' program from Creative Travel will take you deep into the Golden Triangle of India. To the ancient history and modern magnificence of the capital city of New Delhi. To the vibrancy and colour of Jaipur, in the glorious desert state of Rajasthan. To the richness of Agra's traditions. To palaces and temples, mosques and forts. To the very soul of Indian civilisation.

Day 1: Arrive in Delhi and check in at your preferred hotel.

Day 2: A full-day tour of both Old and New Delhi to experience the living contrasts between traditional splendour and modern energy. In New Delhi, you will see India Gate, the Parliament House and palatial government buildings, Humayun's Tomb and the towering Qutub Minar with a historic Iron Pillar that has survived the ravages of time for over 1500 years. You will also visit modern day landmarks of the city, its new shopping arcades. In Old Delhi, you can pay your respects at the final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi, the Raj Ghat, see the imposing Red Fort built by the creator of the Taj Mahal, visit lndia's largest mosque, the Jama Masjid, with its black and white onion domes, minarets and white marble, and take a cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the bustling old bazaar (market) where you will see age-old modes of transport like bullock carts still on the streets.

Day 3: After breakfast, when you drive to the Pink City of Jaipur, you will have an opportunity to see India's lively countryside en route. Rest for the day in Jaipur, to explore it at your leisure.

Day 4: Morning excursion to the Amber Fort, with its old Rajput palace overlooking a beautiful lake. Follow an old tradition and ride up to Amber Fort on an elephant. Visit the glowing Jag Mandir (Hall of Victory). In the afternoon, wander around the old 'Pink City', and visit the City Palace where many a royal treasure is preserved, including the world's largest silver vessels. Then, experience the unique Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) and witness the wonder of a I7th Century observatory with its 28 m high sundial.

Day 5: Drive to Agra, with a stopover to discover the deserted capital city of Fatehpur Sikri, and ponder on why this beautifully preserved capital was dramatically abandoned a few years after it was built.

Day 6:
Agra. It is here you will come face to face with one of the seven wonders of the world, India's most perfect architectural creation, the monument of eternal love, the Taj Mahal. Behold its magnificent structure, observe its intricate detailing and craftsmanship, and gaze in awe as you linger on beautifully landscaped gardens. Then, proceed on to the impressive Agra Fort and allow yourself to be led through a multitude of chambers in this regal residence. As you drive through the city you will also get a taste of the local life and bazaars, and the hustle bustle of everyday India.

Day 7: Drive back to Delhi. Check in at your hotel, rest or spend the evening wandering around town, and shopping for souvenirs to last a lifetime.

Day 8: Transfer to the international airport for your departure flight. It's time for your magical journey to come to an end.
